Just look at this sweet face!  Thurston is a very happy 7-year old red smooth dachshund.  He weighs about 13 pounds.  He would make a great addition to the right family! He is fully house trained and listens very well.  Thurston will need a forever home with a fenced back yard as he is an active little guy who can "jump" (more on that later).  Because Thurston can be vocal he would not be a good pup for apartment living.  He is crate-trained although he would like to sleep in the ‘big bed’ with you.  Thurston likes to jump especially in the chair you are sitting on.  He gets along well with other dogs, but we have no idea if he gets along with cats.   He is fine with respectable children.  He likes women and men alike, just really likes to be with his ‘human’ and follows everywhere.  He will bark when he first sees you, but there is no aggression, just voicing his happy opinion.  He will bark if you leave the room without him.   We feed him his meals in a crate as he can be protective of his meals if other animals are around.  But, he will take treats very nicely from your fingers.  You have to be careful if you open a door to visitor(s) as he will run to the open door thinking the visitor(s) are there just to see him.  Just like most dachshunds, he does not like the rain.  He is a wonderful, loves life and overall is a ‘happy go-lucky’ little boy.

Adoption Fee:  $275.00 + $45.00 for a health certificate if going over state lines (required by law).  Dogs adopted in New England are subject to additional rules and regulations by the state departments of agriculture. Complying with these regulations is expensive for our rescue, and all dogs adopted in New England states are subject to an additional $145 non refundable fee to help cover a portion of these expenses.

Transportation Help

If you see a furbaby that is a match for your family, don’t let distance stand in the way of your adoption. LPDR can work with you to have a volunteer transport to assist with transportation or refer you to a paid transport.
