Dixie is a gorgeous, 3 year-old, highly spirited little girl. Sadly, Dixie did not have a great start in life. She came into LPDR in May with both health and behavioral issues. She was frightened of everything and everyone, was heart worm positive and had a seizure about a week after she went to her foster home.
Once Dixie warms up to you, she is wonderful but will still bark & cower from strangers. She is working very hard at potty training and has mostly good days now unless it is raining – typical Dachshund! She loves her foster Sisters Bella and Fergie but is not good with cats. She is very afraid around children so needs to go to a home with no small children. Also a no cat home is required.
She is crate trained and will sleep in her crate all night without a peep. Dixie is doing great with her leash training but we are still limiting where we go for walks as she gets frightened easily and will try to back out of her collar or harness. She LOVES chasing squirrels, chipmunks and lizards. She also loves going for car rides!
She is quite the destroyer of toys! Dixie did not know what a toy was when she came to us so is in doggy heaven every time she gets a new toy! And, if you leave flip flops, socks, hats, pillows or other human items low enough for her to reach, she will destroy those too! She is one busy little girl.
Dixie has not had another seizure so her Vet feels this was just an isolated incident. She is now heart worm negative and is looking for the perfect forever home. She has a whole lot of love to give and is a ton of fun – just is still a work in progress for someone who has the time, patience and love to give her. Did we mention how adorable she is?
