Benson is a tiny boy—an 8lb dachshund who is 7 years old. Benson came to LPDR originally in 2019, when he was quickly adopted. This sweet little guy is looking for a new home again because his previous adopter sadly passed away. He is very timid and takes a little while to get comfortable in a new situation. He will thrive in a quiet home where he can have peace and routine.
Environment
Benson is crate and house-trained. A regular schedule will keep him in these good habits as well as help him acclimate to his new home. As he is so timid, a home with a yard will be best; he loves other dogs but on walks he’d be easily startled. He’s not very good at them anyway and tries to roam in every direction so he would need some work leash training with a gentle, force-free trainer if he is to be leash-walked. He’s fine when left alone as long as a predictable schedule is kept, and fine in a home with shared walls since he’s not very vocal.
Pets & People
Benson loves people and his favorite activity is to sit with you and snuggle. However, he doesn’t like to be picked up or held so children are best avoided. He adores other dogs and a home with another confident small dog would likely really help his confidence. He is very gentle, especially when asking for treats. If there are other dogs in the home they should be supervised when eating as Benson won’t protect his food at all.
Health
Benson is in good physical health and now taking fluoxetine for his anxiety and depression he’s really coming out of his shell. He does have some undetermined pain that he takes rimadyl for as needed.
Location

Benson is available for adoption from Columbia, SC. He is ok in the car and looking forward to a ride to his new home.
