Hello, I’m Carmen, and I am here to tell you a story about bravery!
I found my way to Little Paws when I was dumped by a puppy mill breeder. I was no longer useful or seen as a commodity due to an injury. I was unable to use my back leg because of an untreated Achilles injury that required very expensive surgery. I had not been socialized with people; I was petrified of humans and had to learn how to trust. Everything in my life changed when Little Paws vowed to give me a second chance. Through the kindness and generosity of hundreds of people who donated to my fundraiser, I was able to receive the surgery I desperately needed to save my leg and give me the ability to walk again. I’ve spent my recovery learning how to be a happy, well-adjusted dog with my foster Mom’s pack of three other dachshunds. I will need a very patient and experienced adopter because it will take me time to warm up to new people, but once I feel comfortable, I am full of love and puppy energy. I'm finally ready to find a home of my own. Could you be the person who steps up and changes my life for the second time since being rescued?
I love to play and follow my pack mates everywhere! I snuggle with them and my foster family, but I have a crate that I like to retreat to when I feel overwhelmed or afraid. Every day I am improving at walking on a leash and going potty outside, so I will need someone committed to working with me to reach my goals. I do have accidents when I am scared and will need an adopter who follows a schedule to keep me on track.
I can't climb stairs because of my previous injury, but I am just as happy to be carried around like a princess. My ideal owner would be experienced with fearful dogs and have at least one dog buddy for me to bond with.
Please fill out an application at: Application | Little Paws Dachshund Rescue (littlepawsdr.org)
Please get in touch with my foster mom Wendy for more info on me at: wendy@rothschell.com I am currently being fostered in New Jersey and can be adopted within 200 miles of Gloucester City, NJ. The Adoption Fee for Carmen is: $325.00 + $45.00 for a health certificate if going over state lines (required by law). TRANSPORTATION HELP! If you see a furbaby that would be a match for your family, please don’t let distance stand in the way of your adoption. LPDR can work with you to have a volunteer transport to assist with transportation.
