Meet Dudley! Dudley was brought to the shelter as a stray and was never reclaimed, we are still scratching our heads as to how and why…if only dogs could talk!! The story we do know is that he is a younger adult who is estimated to be under 5 years old and he weighs just under 12 pounds. He is a very handsome boy with the sweetest and goofiest personality. Dudley has a wonderful temperament and loves everyone, he will even do well with older considerate children. He gets along great with other animals including the other dogs and cat in his foster home. He is very submissive natured. He enjoys playing with toys and then finding a dog bed and blanket to burrow under or a lap to curl up in for a nice nap. His other favorite thing to do is eat and of course loves treats so he is very motivated to do almost anything you want him to do! He also loves to be with his people all the time and insists on sleeping with his humans in bed at night but promises not to move and he sleeps soundly under the covers all night until you wake up.
Dudley has IVDD and a visable scar down his back which indicates he has had disc surgery at some point, he has a little wobble to his walk that just adds to his cuteness! He actually walks really well and even does zoomies when he gets excited like when it is time to eat. Dudley even enjoys walks on a leash which is good for some physical therapy and exercise. He is able to go to the bathroom on his own but sometimes does not completely empty his bladder when he goes. So he will need an adopter who is able to give him enough time outside to fully go, help him finish expressing his bladder when needed, and put a belly band on him in the house if he will be left alone for more than a few hours at a time. He also needs to be kept from jumping on and off of furniture and if stairs are in the home they will need to be securely blocked off with a gate for his safety, and to prevent him from re-injuring his back. He is not a fan of a crate but does great with baby gated areas where is is safe when left alone. Since he loves to eat and eats so fast, he would benefit from a slow feeder so he can slow down and enjoy his meals.
Dudley is such a happy go lucky dachshund who doesn’t know he has a disability. He is the sweetest little guy who is the most deserving of a loving home, he is eager to please and has so much love to give. He would do well in a home as an only pet or with other considerate animals that would just pal around with him and not play too rough due to his back. He does not require a fenced in yard. Dudley is fully vetted including neuter, microchip, bloodwork, hw and flea prevention, x-rays, physical therapy, and a dental cleaning.
Dudley is located in North Carolina. If you would like more information about Dudley please email his foster mom Erika….erika@gitomer.com. The adoption fee for Dudley is $275. If he is adopted over a state line, there will be a $45.00 charge for a health certificate (required by law).
Transportation Help: If you see a furbaby that is a match for your family, don’t let distance stand in the way of your adoption. LPDR can work with you to have a volunteer transport to assist with transportation.
