Meet Tyson, an energetic, playful, and happy 3 year-old dachshund. He has long red hair with white spots on his chest and paws and weighs about 14 pounds. Tyson is a sweet boy who loves to cuddle his human. Tyson’s foster mom says that he is super affectionate. He loves love. He can never get or give enough kisses and cuddles and his tail wags a mile a minute. Tyson's joyful attitude towards life is contagious; no one can be sad around him.  However, Tyson needs someone who is familiar with resource guarding, continuing to work with him and building Tyson's confidence to be the best boy. Tyson continues to work on house training, since he used to be left in a diaper all day. He knows that he needs to go outside to potty and does well if he is let outside every 1 to 2 hours. When he is inside the house he wears a belly band because he will pee when excited and he will occasionally mark. Tyson doesn’t mind using a crate for bedtime. However, he does not do well when crated and left alone at home. He isn’t a big fan of riding in cars. He might whine for a little while, but he deals with it and can do short or long trips.

Tyson likes women more than men. He chooses one woman in the household to be his favorite person and wants to be at her side all the time. He gets jealous of other dogs and people who get between him and his favorite human. He makes sure that he inserts himself between his human and any rivals for her attention. Tyson will warm up to men who are gentle with him and non-threatening. Tyson is good with older, respectful children he has been properly introduced to.

Tyson likes to bark at other dogs when walking on a leash. He does well with dogs his own size, but detests big ones. His energy might be too much for a senior dog living in the same house. Tyson is very protective of his home and people and always barks at strange humans. Once he figures out that the stranger is friendly and can be trusted, he warms up.

Dogs adopted in New England are subject to additional rules and regulations by state departments of agriculture that may include a short stay in quarantine.
