Ricky is a 1-1/2 year old, black and tan, 16-pound smooth Dachshund.
Ricky’s owner surrendered him to us due to his high energy and need to live in a single-family home with a fenced yard. Ricky is seeking a home where he will receive love, patience, structure, socialization, and on-going training.
He requires a fenced yard because he is leash reactive (to other dogs and people) and prefers to burn energy by playing and running in his own backyard. Ricky is also reactive to meeting new people. He needs a quiet home. Homes with small children, larger dogs and lots of activity will not be considered. Ricky is mostly house trained and wears a belly band while indoors.
Ricky gets along with the other dachshunds in his foster’s home but does not get along with dogs larger than him and behaves aggressively when he encounters them. He also acts aggressively when strangers enter his home. After proper introductions he calms down and becomes more welcoming. He would do best in a home without children.
Like most young dogs, Ricky needs to exercise and be kept busy with plenty of toys he can chew. He needs to have a small dog buddy to run around with. After all his activity, a tired Ricky curls up in his human’s lap for some love and a nap.
Little Paws has been working with a virtual trainer and we are willing to pay for continued sessions with Pupstanding Academy for Ricky in his forever home. He needs a structured routine on a daily basis. We want to give Ricky the opportunity to succeed and become a valued member of a loving family.
The adoption fee for Ricky is $325. If he is adopted over a state line, there will be an additional charge for a health certificate (required by law) of anywhere between $45.00 and $100.00. The amount depends upon what the veterinarian charges LPDR.
Transportation Help: Ricky is available for adoption within 200 miles of his foster home in Columbia, SC.
