Oscar is a cuddly 12-year-old chocolate and tan dachshund who weighs 16 lbs. Oscar is a sweet and tender soul. He is a snuggle bug and loves being by your side as much as he loves walks and being outside in the sun. His toys are his absolute favorite and he will let you know he's ready to play by pointing his nose to his toys and barking excitedly.

Environment & Training

Oscar is a couch potato most of the time, but still needs daily walks and some play in his life. A one-story home would be ideal, but if not, he prefers to be carried up and down stairs, and given his advanced age, it's probably for the best. He can hold his bladder for about three hours but is happy to wear a belly band. Since he’s so focused on his people, he needs someone to be home most of the day. A home with a fenced yard would be best as he is very alert when outdoors. He thinks of himself as a protector, so while he wouldn’t harm anyone he would run and bark at strangers if let loose. 

Pets

Oscar is crate trained but with a caveat—he needs a small companion dog in the home. Being left entirely alone in a cage causes him anxiety and he would be vocal. He does best with small dogs and loves having a snuggle buddy, but he will bark at strange dogs on walks. Oscar doesn’t have any aggression but will tell off other dogs if they eat his food.

People

With people, as mentioned, he’s a lovebug. He loves anybody who’s warm, careful, welcoming, and willing to play fetch—including respectful kids. Oscar will greet visitors at the door but calms down once reassured.

 

Health

Oscar takes liver and joint supplements daily and would benefit from teeth cleaning and chews. Occasionally he may need allergy meds for his feet. He uses belly bands since he can only hold his bladder for about three hours.
