Walter is a super cute 9-year-old dachshund mix with a short brown and tan colored coat with a touch of frostiness on his nose. He weighs in at 20 pounds and could stand to lose a bit of weight. Walter is a very affectionate pup who loves to hang out and cozy up for a snuggle or two. He’s always there to greet his people when they come home. He enjoys gathering up and playing with his toys and curling up with his foster mom’s dogs.

Walter is house trained. From time-to-time he experiences submissive urination. Like many dachshunds, he doesn’t like to go outside when it is raining and may have the occasional accident inside. He will wear a belly band, but his foster mom says that he doesn’t generally need one. He needs to have a home in which someone is home most of the time to take him outside for potty breaks and to give him cuddles throughout the day.

Walter is crate trained and loves to sleep in his personal space at night, but would also like to sleep in the big bed. He isn’t crated during the day in his foster’s home. She thinks that he would probably be fine taking short daytime naps in his crate.

Walter isn’t a very vocal dog, but when he does bark it is loud and insistent. He is not a good fit for townhouse or apartment living. Walter likes being outside and would love a fenced yard, but it’s not a necessity. He does not have much experience with leash walking and needs to continue his training so that he enjoys walks around the neighborhood. Walter is always happy to jump in the car and travel wherever his person wants to go.

Walter likes people. He gets excited when he first meets strangers. However, he is never aggressive towards them. He has a slight preference for women and can be timid around men. Walter would probably warm up to older considerate children. Walter loves keeping company with small and medium sized dogs. He would need a doggie buddy in his new home.

When we asked his foster mom what she likes most about Walter, she said that he is a very laid back little guy who is quite low maintenance. He gives great quality super sloppy puppy kisses.

Walter is currently living in Christiansburg, VA with his foster mom Stacy. For additional information, please contact her at stacyp@littlepawsdr.org . If you would like to adopt Walter, please complete an adoption application form by clicking on https://  www.littlepawsdr.org/adoption/adoption-applications/ .

The adoption fee for Walter is $200.00. If the dog is adopted over a state line, there will be an additional charge for a health certificate (required by law) of anywhere between $45.00 and $100.00. The amount depends upon what the veterinarian charges LPDR.

Transportation Help: If you see a dog that is a match for your family a LPDR volunteer transport may be arranged to bring the dog to you. However, some of our dogs have distance restrictions and need to be adopted within a specific number of miles from their foster homes. We’ll inform you if the dog you’ve applied for is not able to travel long distances by car. A paid transport can also be arranged for any dog that does not have travel restrictions.

Dogs adopted in New England are subject to additional rules and regulations by state departments of agriculture that may include a short stay in quarantine. Complying with these regulations is expensive for our rescue and some dogs going to New England states may be charged an additional $175.00 to cover costs of compliance.
