Homer is a handsome 3-year-old dachshund with a gorgeous long chocolate and tan dapple coat. He weighs about 19 pounds. Homer is bonded with his buddy Bart. They cannot be separated and must be adopted together. Homer is house trained, and crate trained. When no humans are home, he and Bart do well crated together. Alternatively, they can be left to roam the house freely. They are perfect gentlemen. Homer would be fine living in any type of home including one with shared walls so long as it is in a fairly quiet location. Homer is not a vocal guy except when he hears other dogs barking.
Homer enjoys spending time outside so much so that he will make a beeline for an open front door and go wherever his nose takes him. He would love to have a securely fenced yard to hang out in and play with his best friend Bart. Homer has not had much experience walking on leash. He’s working on it. Car trips are not his favorite thing, but he puts up with them if he has to.
Homer likes humans and does well with strangers that enter his home or that he meets on walks and enjoys the company of respectful children. He barks at other dogs until they get close to him. Then he stops barking and starts sniffing. Since he loves to chase the neighborhood cats that come into his backyard, he cannot be adopted into a home with feline residents.
When we asked his foster mom what she likes most about Homer, she said that he is a total sweetheart. He is a laid-back cuddle monster who just wants to be near his people. Homer loves to please and is a very obedient guy. He’ll do an awesome job learning commands and leash walking.
Homer is currently living in Virginia Beach, VA with his foster mom Jocelyn. For additional information, please contact her at

Transportation Help: If you see a dog that is a match for your family a LPDR volunteer transport may be arranged to bring the dog to you. However, some of our dogs have distance restrictions and need to be adopted within a specific number of miles from their foster homes. We’ll inform you if the dog you’ve applied for is not able to travel long distances by car. A paid transport can also be arranged for any dog that does not have travel restrictions.
Dogs adopted in New England are subject to additional rules and regulations by state departments of agriculture that may include a short stay in quarantine. Complying with these regulations is expensive for our rescue and some dogs going to New England states may be charged an additional $175.00 to cover costs of compliance.
