Potato is an 11 year old dachshund who is bonded with Poppy. Both pups are extremely well behaved, sweet dogs. Potato is very hard of hearing but very willing to follow hand commands. Sadly, their owner passed away and the family could not keep both dogs, so now they are looking for a home where they can be together and share all their love with a new family.

Personality

Potato is a very quiet dog in the house. He loves to sit with his people on the couch and has great, soulful eyes. Potato is low energy and will play fetch on occasion, but mostly just loves to be cozy and sleep.

Environment

Both are crate trained and as long as they are on a schedule, they are house trained too! You’ll need to be aware that neither of them signals to go outside. Since they are both crate trained this pair doesn’t require work from home so long as they are crated. Potato is quiet in the house so should be ok in a home with shared walls.  They are great on walkies, but they do love to bark at people when they walk by. Quieter walking routes may be a bit more peaceful. 

Pets & People

Potato is great with people of all ages. He’s a total couch potato (hence the name?) and has endless cuddles to give. Both Poppy and Potato are so docile and love other dogs. They are great with all the foster’s own dogs—even the brand new 10 week old puppy! They don't even react when she is nipping at them for attention. Although they are untested with cats, judging by their amenable temperament and lack of displayed prey drive they would likely be ok. Neither Poppy or Potato are food aggressive and will actually move away from their food and allow another dog in.

Training and Health

Despite being deaf Potato has quickly learned basic commands! He follows those commands each time. He will respond to a stomp of the foot to get his attention in the house. While he does not bark inside, he is quite vocal outside and will  continue until you catch his attention. 

Potato has a heart murmur that will need monitoring but at this time doesn’t need any meds or treatment.

Location

Potato and sister Poppy are available for adoption from Haverhill, MA. They are a little whiny in the car but other than that, fine with travel.
