Meet Hammie! This sweet and playful boy was rescued from a hoarding situation and is looking for a home with kind and patient people who can help him conquer his fears. Hammie is very happy and active, and his tail wags often. He’s eager to please and be loved. 

His favorite things to do include playing with toys, exploring in the yard, and being a total snuggle bug once he gets to know you.

Environment

Hammie sleeps in his crate at night and is comfortable in there when his people are out. He’s still working on house training, so his new people will need to be able to take him out regularly. He’s making great progress with praise and rewards for doing his business outside.

Speaking of outside, he adores being there. He has an exploratory nature and likes to sniff, bark, and follow his nose. He’s not an escape artist but he could easily get lost on his adventures, so he will need a fenced yard. He also does great in the car and loves walks.

People & Pets

Hammie is a nervous dog and quite scared of people to begin with. However, with patience, love, and understanding, he will bond heavily with his new carer. He really wants to give all his love to one person and is fearful with visitors, but he is beginning to take treats from other family members, so we think he just needs time. 

When it comes to other dogs, it’s a different story. He loves his foster brother (another dachshund) and has gotten on well with other new dogs who have visited his foster home! His playful and active nature would do well in a home where he can socialize with other pups.

Hammie is available for adoption within 200 miles of his foster home in Anderson, SC. Please note that because he can be a little wary of new people, you must be willing to meet him with his foster a few times to get comfortable before you’ll be able to take him home.
