Dixie is an 11 year old Chiweenie weighing approximately 16lbs. Between her black and tan x silver dapple coat, and her one blue eye and one brown eye, she has very distinct features but her real beauty is in her personality. She absolutely adores her humans, and has so much love to give. Since she is an older girl, she is a snuggle bug couch potato, so people with a lowkey lifestyle would suit her vibe.
Environment
Dixie is house trained and crate trained, but would better suit someone who is home a lot. Her current potty schedule is about every couple of hours throughout the day and she likes to go outside often. She loves car rides, leash walks, and exploring a fenced back yard—especially to laze and snooze in the sunshine. Plush toys are her only prey and she loves to destroy them, but unlike many weens she doesn’t try to eat the squeaker once removed. If she’s allowed she would love to snuggle and sleep in the big bed with her humans but she’s happy to sleep in a crate or pen too. She will join in if other dogs bark so shared walls aren’t recommended for Dixie.
Pets & People
Dixie has been sweet to everyone she meets, including adults, older children, and smaller dogs. Her only downfall is that she sometimes gets so excited that she could overwhelm or annoy a less tolerant dog. Introductions should be supervised if that’s the case. She’s met plenty of dachshunds in her foster home, but no bigger dogs. She is also untested with children under 6.
Training & Health
When it comes to treats, she can be snatchy, so either training or just treating with awareness is needed. She had surgery to remove a mass, so her new family will need to keep an eye on the site to ensure there is no recurrence. She is currently taking gabapentin to alleviate a bit of hip pain.
Location & Adoption

Dixie is available for adoption from North Charleston. She does great in the car and is looking forward to a car ride to her new home (hopefully) very soon.
Please email her foster, Herb, at hdwatsonjr@gmail.com with any questions or click the ‘Adopt’ button above to complete an application. The adoption fee for Dixie is $200.00
