Bonnie is a three-year-old, playful girl. Weighing in at 12lbs, she’s a portable little snuggle bug who is super excited to be with her humans. Her previous home was with seven large dogs, which the previous owner suspected caused her some anxiety, but with her foster’s five dachshunds she’s been right at home! Most evenings she just wants to curl up on the couch and get cozy.
Environment
Bonnie will use a pee pad and we have been working on pottying outside. She just needs encouragement to go out because she wants to be with her humans. She is untested on crate training but is fine if left alone with her bed, blankets, and pee pad.
She can be a little skittish, and loud noises can scare her, so a home without a lot of unpredictable/loud noise would suit her best. For the same reason, she really loves to roam in the backyard more than walkies. On walks, she doesn’t love her harness and needs some training with pulling, but when she’s safe in the yard she does great! She doesn’t show any interest in chasing birds or squirrels, nor is she a digger.
As she loves her humans, we think she would do best in a home where someone is around more. She only barks occasionally when copying the other dogs so shared walls wouldn’t be a problem.
People & Pets
Bonnie is very sweet and laid back. As mentioned, she gets along with the five other dachshunds in her foster home and although living with so many German shepherds made her anxious, she does fine around bigger dogs. She wants to be close to her humans and is friendly with strangers. She is a more submissive personality—so much so that she’s fed away from the other dogs, so they don’t steal her food. She’s finding her voice though and will stand up for herself (with a little bark) if someone invades her space or if she’s surprised when under a blanket.
Health
Bonnie is Isabella and hairless, but despite the lack of fur she wriggles out of sweaters and doesn’t care to be under blankets too much. She seems to keep warm just fine, but she might need sun protection if she lives in a sunny state. Previous owners said she had anxiety and seizures, but she has been taken off meds and had no seizures since living with her foster.
Location
Bonnie is available for adoption from Mint Hill, NC. Please note that she gets anxious in the car, so we will limit adoption to a few hours away up to 200 miles from Charlotte, NC.
