Stan Lee is a 9 year old Dachshund who currently weighs approximately 25lbs. He is a playful, affectionate, and talkative guy who, above all, is very loyal to his pack. He is very loving to his toys and takes care of them like they are his babies, and he’ll entertain himself by making blanket nests and digging holes in search of pesky rabbits. Stan is looking for humans who can give him lots of love and care, and in return he will comfort you when you're feeling down.
Environment
Stan Lee is house trained and crate trained, but currently sleeps in a teepee with a dog bed and a mountain of blankets. He’s able to hold his bladder for up to six hours, but like any dachshund would prefer not to be left that long. He has a deep bark and isn’t shy about using his voice so he will need a home without shared walls. Stan loves to chase all the squirrels out of his yard but he doesn’t quite know his boundaries, so a fence is necessary. When he goes for walks he tends to pull so he’s working on getting better on the leash.
Pets & People
Stan has come to Little Paws from a situation in which he was mistreated by his male owner, so he can be slow to warm up and guarded when new people come to visit. However, once he knows they are safe, he does well and will fit in with most anyone. He’s looking for a home without small children though, since he likes people to be predictable.
His arch enemies include the UPS man, squirrels, and cars driving past the house, but don’t worry—he’ll alert you to the presence of these villains in his territory. With other dogs, however, he does great. He’s currently living with four furry foster siblings and they get along well.
Training & Health
He’s a dog who is adaptable to any lifestyle and doesn’t care whether his new family are active or more homebodies, but he needs to continue to lose weight. He's down 3lbs in 4 weeks since arriving in foster care and has the will to keep going. Stan has a bit of food guarding—which is getting better every day—and guards his people sometimes, so he will need to keep working to curb this behavior.
Health wise he’s doing well, he just has a grade two luxating patella (his kneecap pops out of place) so he can only manage a few stairs.
Location & Adoption
Stan Lee is available for adoption from Columbia, SC. He does great in the car and is looking forward to a car ride to his new home (hopefully) very soon. Note: his name used to be T-Bone so he will answer to that if Stan isn’t resonating.
