Jake's Bio

Jake is a brown and chocolate, short-haired dapple dachshund who weighs approximately 16 lbs. At 7 years old, his previous owner’s health unfortunately declined, but he has only known a life of care so he’s laidback and loving. Upon first meeting, he can be a little shy, but once you gain his trust he’ll want to be by your side. He enjoys the yard and the couch equally, so he’s looking for a home with a balanced lifestyle. Jake is not a fan of car rides, so he will need to be adopted locally; either in North Carolina or South Carolina. He will also need at least one other dog in his forever home as companionship.

Environment & Training

Jake is house-trained and also knows how to use a pee pad if needed when left or if he needs to go at night. He hasn’t been crated in his foster home, and socializes well with the five other dachshunds in the home. He can be a little scared of loud noises, so a calmer home may be better for him. Ideally Jake will have access to a yard, because although he likes to go on walks, his shyness means he sometimes barks at strangers. He doesn’t have any prey-drive behavior, and minimal digging.

Pets & People

Jake is very shy when he first meets people and his reaction is to bark, but is great with everyone once given the chance to warm up to them. With all the other dogs, he’s a doll. No food or resource guarding has been observed in his foster home, and all the dogs cohabitate well while left to their own devices. Jake will need at least one other dog in his forever home.
