COURTESY POST

Dozer is a corgi/dachshund/pit mix—around 57 lbs—and 11 years old. He is an affectionate dog who looks at you with adoration and follows you wherever you go. He loves going on walks, riding in the car, and lying in the sun. He listens (most of the time) to commands, enjoys sniffing in the leaves to find bugs, and he’ll do anything for his stuffed toys and treats. He will finish the evening tucked into bed covered in his blanket.

Environment & Training

Dozer is accustomed to going on walks to go potty approximately three times a day. With that routine or with a fenced backyard, he won’t have any trouble with remaining house trained. While he understands what it means to take a walk, he can be reactive when he sees squirrels and attempt to chase them. A fenced yard would be really beneficial if possible. Dozer is crate trained, however, he barks or whines when left alone because he has separation anxiety. We therefore, do not recommend a home with shared walls (like an apt, condo or town house). Dozer would do best with someone who is home a lot. If he is the only dog in the home, he should be crated, but if there is another dog home he’d be ok without a crate.

Pets & People

Dozer is usually ok meeting strangers in public; you can stop to talk without concern. However, when strangers enter the home without an introduction, he will bark and protect his person. He hasn't been exposed to many children (and none under 4), therefore it is recommended that he be in a home without children or with older respectful children.

Dozer has not been socialized with dogs, but when paired with the right dog he loves to play. He had a sister dog previously so he can live with another dog. Dozer is very food/treat motivated. With other dogs around, he will eat a little faster because he guards what’s important to him. He will need some space when eating.  Dozer definitely does not like cats.

Health & Training

Dozer takes Trazadone daily for separation anxiety, which would require some ongoing training to improve upon.

Location

Dozer is currently living in Lilburn, GA. If you would like additional information about Dozer or wish to adopt Dozer, please contact his foster mom Kelley at kelleyrhodge@gmail.com.  The adoption fee for Dozer is $200.00.
