Sparky Bio
Sparky is a 9lb mixed dachshund who is 8 years old. He is half Dachshund, half Feist, and 100% snuggle bug. Sparky is looking for a new home as his elderly previous owner could no longer take care of him. He’s very laidback, and his favorite things to do are walks and snuggles. Sparky has had a life of love and is looking for a family who can continue that and give him the stimulation he deserves.
Environment
Sparky is house-trained but isn’t very used to a crate. He doesn’t like being left behind and acts out. This behavior has grown with his confidence. He will chew anything he can get hold of—including the gate containing him—so he will need to be enclosed without anything in reach, and would be a good time investment to crate-train him. His foster has started working with the crate and he doesn’t love it but will tolerate it.
Sparky has had his couch potato era and now he’s ready for his adventure era. He would enjoy having multiple walks per day. He rides nicely in the car (as long as it’s moving) and would love to go with his humans for outings. Sparky is a little whiny when he wants attention or to go outside. He could benefit from more mental stimulation. He’s not very interested in toys, but he’s very smart, obedient, and responsive, so more activity in his day or learning new tricks would make for a very happy dog.
He doesn’t necessarily need a home with a fenced yard since he walks well on his leash, but it might be nice because he does love to be outside. He will be fine in a home with shared walls as he’s not that chatty.
Pets & People
Sparky has done well with all dogs he’s encountered so far and would probably enjoy having a doggy buddy in his new home. His foster suspects this might also improve his anxiety about being left alone. He hasn’t been around other dogs while eating, but he’s not very food motivated and often leaves food so would likely be fine. He can be a little nervous with new people but is easily won over with some pets or a belly rub. He’s as yet untested around children.

 Health
Sparky has a touch of arthritis in his hips. He picks up one of his back legs when walking quickly or running, and vet has recommended he continue with a joint supplement. Sparky recently had 15 teeth removed during his dental.
