Chocolate is a 16lb tweenie dachshund who is somewhere between 10 and 12 years old. Chocolate is looking for a new home as his elderly previous owner needs care and can no longer have a dog. Chocolate loves attention and wants to be wherever you are, but he prefers to snuggle up beside you than to be on your lap. He gives a great side-eye and will be sure to let you know when he wants his space.

Environment

Chocolate is house trained so long as he’s kept on a schedule and let outside regularly! He also knows how to use a pee pad if needed. He is crate trained and sleeps in his crate happily. Chocolate doesn’t necessarily need a home with a fenced yard since he walks well on his leash, but it might be convenient since he needs his regular potty breaks. He’s not a dog who needs tons of activity but he still enjoys a walk or an adventure, so new owners who like to take their pet with them on outings would suit him well. No homes with shared walls because, while he doesn’t bark much, when he does it’s a loud and insistent bark.

Pets & People

Chocolate has done well with all dogs he’s encountered so far and really loves having friends, but he’s not a fan if they get in his face. He’s very food motivated and will definitely help others finish their food if left to his own devices. He’s fed separately to avoid this in his foster home as he doesn’t need to gain any weight. He’s gentle with treats and can be treated alongside his doggy friends. He would be fine as an only dog or with other considerate dogs.

With people, Chocolate is a lover. He gets excited for new people and does fine with all adults, the only exception being that he doesn’t like to be lifted up. He growls when put up or down off the couch (even though he wants to be up there) but he’s been working on it with his fosters. Due to this and a lack of experience around children he will do best in a home without young children.

Health

Chocolate is in good health. He could use a belly band if he needs to be left more than a couple of hours, and his food intake needs to be monitored. He just had a dental for cleaning and removal of some nasty teeth.

Location

Chocolate is available for adoption from Christiansburg, VA. Please email stacyp@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Chocolate is $200.
