Elsie is a 10 lb, 11 year old piebald baby who came to Little Paws after the owner moved into nursing care. She’s an absolute top tier good girl. She thrives around others and wants nothing more than to be a part of the family. She is a cuddle bug and gives the sweetest tiniest little kisses. Elsie was a little shell shocked by her move at first but very quickly warmed to her foster family and their resident doxie. This little girl has a lot of love to give, and a joy for life to bring to her new home.

Environment

Elsie is house-trained but not crate-trained. Her house training is excellent and she will stand by the door to ask to go out. She has only had 2-3 accidents in the house, and these were in the middle of the night when she couldn't be heard asking to go outside. She may need a bell or something by the door. She knows the words "lets go" and "walk" and she lights up when you say it. Her foster says they have never met a dog so excited to go on a walk than Elsie! If her new home has a yard it will need to be fenced because although she mostly stays by her humans she’s been known to chase a squirrel.

She’s not going to be a dog who can live in a home with shared walls as she suffers with separation anxiety. She will need her people home more often than not, or she will sing the song of her people and won’t settle. The longer she's been with her foster family, the anxiety has slightly improved.

Pets & People

Elsie gets along swimmingly with the other doxie in her foster home, they play together and eat together despite Elsie’s big appetite. She is great with grownups of all kinds and quickly asks for attention, but she’s untested with children.

Health

Elsie has Cushings and willingly takes medication for it daily. This causes her to drink lots of water, and in turn she has to go out to pee often. She always asks to go out, and can often hold it through the night but does sometimes ask to go out around 1am or 3.30am. Also due to this medication she has a big appetite, and loves her food and treats. Her stomach is sensitive so she can’t have too many treats or she will throw up. Peanut butter goes down fine with her meds.

Location

Elsie is available for adoption from Savannah, GA. Please email meredith.h.mcmanus@gmail.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Elsie is $200.00
