Mars the chihuahua/dachshund mix has overcome a life of neglect and become a gentle, loving guy who just wants to curl up on you and snooze. He was left outside for years, leading animal control to take him into custody. Until this August—at approximately 10 years old—he had never lived inside. He’s looking for a warm home where he can build nests, cuddle, and maybe even sleep in the big bed.
Environment
Mars will sleep in a crate but prefers to be close to his people. He is 99% housetrained, and will use a pee pad if there’s one available. His new home will need a fenced yard and a companion for when he’s outside. Due to his past he has anxiety about being left alone out there. He doesn’t bark much and would be just fine in a home with shared walls.
Pets & People
Mars is a sociable guy who loves people of all ages—children included—and enjoys the company of other dogs. He greets new visitors and warms up to them quickly. He’s happy and content and just wants to be near people. According to his foster he’s an award winner too! “The most gentle, loving little guy” they’ve ever fostered.
Health
Mars needs to be washed with a special shampoo on a weekly basis, and has some mild anxiety about being left alone.
Location
Mars is available for adoption from Columbia, SC. Please email bethanycow@yahoo.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Mars is $200.
