Lauri is a sweet 13-year-old chocolate dachshund who was surrendered with her sister Shari. They are a bonded pair who are both very loving. Lauri is 15lbs of pure affection and still retains an inquisitive nature. The pair were surrendered to us after their owner sadly passed away. They have known a life of care and love and are looking for a comfy home to continue their retirement.

Environment

Lauri is very curious and kind natured. She enjoys doggy puzzles, breakfast, walks, treats, chasing balls, dinner, and staring lovingly into your eyes while you eat. She is very food motivated and forgets how to do ‘gently’ when treats are around. We suspect she was ‘helping’ Shari finish her food before joining the LPDR family, and recommend feeding them supervised or separated to prevent this. 

For her age she is moderately active, and while she does understand walks it may be more convenient to have a fenced yard as she needs a lot of potty breaks. She does use a potty pad if needed too.

She is crate trained and both she and Shari do ok when left as long as they are together–just not for too long! They’d still prefer someone who is home more often as they have a lot of love to give. They would do fine in a home with shared walls as they aren’t very vocal, only to say a quick hello if someone comes to visit. 

Pets & People

Lauri is good with all adults and has been tested with children as young as eight. They are both very gentle, sweet girls so would likely be ok around respectful young children so long as there’s no food distractions. They obviously adore each other and they are great with other dogs too, but as mentioned, Lauri needs monitoring with food. 

Health

Lauri is currently on an antibiotic to help clear a potential UTI. We believe this may be the source of her frequent potty needs. We’ve been using a slow feeder so that she doesn’t scarf her food so quickly, and to prevent any digestive discomfort.

Lauri and sister Shari are available for adoption from Newland, NC. Lauri is ok with travel, and this dynamic duo are looking forward to snuggling up on a ride to their new home.
