Shari is a 13-year-old dapple dachshund who was surrendered with her sister Lauri. They are a bonded pair who are both very loving. Shari weighs a little less than her sister at 12lbs but is just as much of a sweetie. The pair were surrendered to us after their owner sadly passed away. They have known a life of care and love and are looking for a comfy home to continue their retirement.

Environment

Shari is a great listener who enjoys cuddles and walks. She is not as food motivated as Lauri, and we suspect Lauri has been ‘helping’ her finish her meals which is probably why she weighs a little less! She walks very well on the leash and likes to go on her little adventures. Shari uses a potty pad well and goes to the door to indicate wanting to go outside. She’s not vocal and won’t otherwise alert you that she wants to go out so a fenced yard with a doggy door would be the ideal situation. 

Shari is crate trained and both she and Lauri do ok when left as long as they are together–just not for too long! They’d still prefer someone who is home more often as they have a lot of love to give. They would do fine in a home with shared walls as they aren’t very vocal, only to say a quick hello if someone comes to visit. 

Pets & People

Shari is good with all adults and has been tested with children as young as eight. They are both very gentle, sweet girls so would likely be ok around respectful young children. They obviously adore each other but they are great with other dogs too. Shari in particular is unphased by the presence of other pooches but we recommend that they be the only dogs in their new home unless their new owners are experienced with or willing to manage the feeding situation.

Health

Shari is currently on thyroid medication but is due a test in a couple of weeks to check whether those will need to continue.

Shari and sister Lauri are available for adoption from Newland, NC. Shari is ok with travel, and this dynamic duo are looking forward to snuggling up on a ride to their new home.
