This senior sweetie’s name is Riley. She is a big girl, weighing in at 18lb, and she has come to Little Paws at 12 years old after her previous owner moved into nursing care. Now this clever, friendly girl is looking for a family who’ll give her a cozy, loved retirement.
Environment
Riley is house trained, crate trained, and a very quick learner. She will let you know she wants to go out by going to the door. Once she’s outside she is not a flight risk, and doesn’t dig. She does have a bit of a penchant for lizard chasing.
Riley only barks a little so she would be ok in a home with shared walls. Her only request is to have her humans home more often than not. She is ok on her own, but she loves company and is thriving with people at home now after being left alone quite a bit in her previous family.
Pets & People
Riley has “never met a stranger” according to her foster! She loves people and pets, and makes fast friends with new visitors. She has been great with the other dachshunds in her foster home—she likes them but doesn’t really play with them. She does bark at big dogs on TV! Riley has no issues around food, and while she eats her meals quite quickly, she waits her turn for a treat.
She is untested with young children and cats, and we think she needs a calm retirement so we won’t place her in a home with either.
