Wendie Bio
Wendie is a snuggly 10-year-old girl who weighs 15 lbs. She was sadly dropped at a shelter when her family relocated, and now she’s looking for a new home with people who’ll never leave her behind.
Environment
Wendie is working on getting fully house trained in her foster home. While she has only ever had one wee accident inside, she has struggled to get to grips with pooping outside. She’s currently in a condo and has to be taken out on a leash, so we suspect she’s more used to having space to roam and time to find the perfect spot. She abhors the crate but doesn’t really need it, she’s well behaved when given free reign. When left home alone she curls up on a blanket by the door, just waiting for your return. She’ll need people home more often than not, and if in a home with people out a lot of the time she’d do best with a companion dog.
Wendie’s a quiet, sweet girl who wouldn’t be a noise problem for any neighbors. She’s not a flight risk but she doesn’t love being leashed so a backyard is preferred. She’s just discovered toys, and is learning how to play with them. Currently her favorite thing is to hold and squeak them.
Pets & People
Wendie likes other dogs including big and small, but doesn’t love puppy energy—it’s a little much at her age. She is a tiny bit territorial over some toys so other dogs in the home should be more on the passive side, or happy to share.
Wendie loves her people so much. All she wants to do is be near them. Her ideal world is cuddling in cozy blankets all day long. If you leave her she’ll come and find you to give you a look that says, "wait where'd you go!?". She's learning to love affection, belly rubs, and even starting to give kisses. Around strangers she’s cautious. She barks and growls when new people visit, but warms up at her own pace. In public, she’s less protective and has no issue.
Health
Wendie has been diagnosed with
degenerative mitral valve disease (DMVD) with moderate left atrial enlargement. DMVD is a common heart disease seen in older small breed dogs. She
takes heart medication twice a day and needs to
follow up with a cardiologist once a year. She has also been treated for heartworm disease and it’s very important that she stays up-to-date on monthly
heartworm prevention
.
