Hank is a 5 year old, 14 lb, beautiful piebald dachshund. He came to Little Paws looking for a new home after being diagnosed with mild IVDD. He was previously living outside and as a breeder dog so everything is novel to him; fluffy beds, having free reign indoors and out, and playing with toys. He’s waiting for the humans who have a lot of love to give and some outdoor space to enjoy his retirement.
Environment
Hank is
mostly
house trained, having had a couple of accidents while getting used to indoor life. His new humans will need to be vigilant at letting him outside while he continues to get up to speed. He did well in the crate when he rode to his foster, but hasn’t been crated since.
Hank loves to roam outside and lay in the sun, or play with his toys for hours. His new home should have a fenced backyard since he was an outdoor dog for many years. He’s also surprisingly great at leash walking for being so new to it! He’s not really a digger or an escape artist, but he loves to chew. He is most vocal when meeting new people, so shared walls shouldn’t be a problem. He’s been ok being left with his doxie foster siblings, but when left alone he would like the company of lots of toys!
Pets & People
Hank is pretty timid with new people, although you may not know that to watch him. This presents as him running circles around them and barking. Introductions are best done outside, to give him space while he adjusts. He does better with new people when they have a chance to walk him and gain trust.
Hank has been excellent with all his furry foster siblings—with the exception of trying to “help” them with their food. He will stop if told off. Instead, he’s been given carrots with his food to slow him down. He
loves
them, and if he doesn’t finish before everyone else, it stops his grand bandit plans!
Health
Hank has IVDD but it’s mild. You can barely tell when he’s frolicking in the garden and he doesn’t let it stop him. The usual caution with steps, jumping etc will be needed.
Location
Hank is available for adoption from Greenvill, NC and adores riding in the car so a broader adoption radius is ok. Please email msbakeragc@gmail.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Hank is $375.
