Overview

Honey honors her name. She is as sweet as can be. She’s bonded with her brother Charlie, and they will need to be adopted together. Honey is 1.5 years old, and approx 17lbs of pure dachshund! She was surrendered with Charlie by previous owners and now they are looking for a new home full of love, where she can love you deeply and intensely in return.

Foster Dairius says:
“My favorite thing about Honey is that she LOVES people. She loves to cuddle and be on top of you. As long as she can see you she is fine. She crawls on your face and looks intensely into your eyes as if she wants to look into your soul. She is an absolute love bug. Honey is a pot of honey that sweetens your life.”

Environment

Honey is young and still has that puppy energy! She is working on potty training because she was living outside on a patio/back porch so she is now learning how to live in the house with people. She is quickly catching on to using the pee pad, holding pee overnight and going outside in the morning. It’s a work in progress. She is already following simple commands like “no” and “go to bed”, plus this clever pup understands Spanish and can be taught English! 

Honey needs to go out on walks and have interactive activities and toys. She would do best in a home with a fenced yard as—although she loves walks—she can be reactive walking on the leash. Anything that moves will have her attention and she’s been known to chase the ducks and cats! Shared walls are not advised for this pair as they will bark at people and animals. She is learning to not jump and to use a ramp to go on furniture.

Pets & People

Honey has major separation anxiety and is deeply bonded with Charlie. She needs to have human company so someone who either works from home, can be home most of the time, or is retired (but active!) would be best suited. As long as she can see you and be close to you she is calm and relaxed. She likes visitors but she will bark at the door to say hello. Once she knows you she’s a total lovebug. She’s fine with all adults and teens, but untested with children.

Honey has had no issues with the two dachshund mix dogs in the foster home. She has been friendly and playful with them. So far Honey, and brother Charlie, have been fed separately from the foster family’s dogs so there have been no issues with food but Honey has the tendency to “help” Charlie with his food so you have to watch them.
