Overview
Charlie is sweet and noble. He loves to be with people and he is a total love bug. He’s bonded with his sister Honey, and they will need to be adopted together. Charlie is 1.5 years old, and approx 17lbs of pure dachshund! He is learning to follow simple directions and is a very motivated and obedient learner. He is very protective of Honey. They were surrendered together by previous owners and now they are looking for a new home full of belly rubs and attention.
Foster Dairius says:
“My favorite thing about Charlie is how he stays still when I pet him or rub his belly, and he looks at me intensely like he wants to look into my soul. I love how he uses his snout to remind me to move my hand when I pet him.”
Environment
Charlie is very energetic and is still working on potty training. He was living outside on a patio/back porch so he is now learning how to live in the house with people. He is quickly catching on to using the pee pad and following simple commands like “no” and “go to bed”, plus this clever pup understands Spanish and can be taught English.
Charlie needs to go out on walks and have interactive activities and toys. He would do best in a home with a fenced yard as he can be reactive walking on the leash. Shared walls are not advised for this pair as Charlie with bark at people and animals. He is learning not jump and to use a ramp to go on furniture.
Pets & People
Charlie has major separation anxiety and is deeply bonded with sister Honey. He needs to have human company so someone who either works from home, can be home most of the time, or is retired (but active!) would be best suited. He likes visitors but he will bark at them at first. Once you pet him he is fine. He’s totally fine with all adults and teens, but untested with small children.
He needs to be socialized more with both people and animals. Charlie has had no issues with the two dachshund mix dogs in the foster home. He has been friendly and playful with them. Charlie loves to eat but hasn’t had any problems with the other dog’s food.
