Overview

Looking for a devoted companion who'll share in all of life's adventures? Meet Burney, a distinguished pure-bred dachshund with a gorgeous red long coat! At 8 years young (turning 9 in January 2025) and a perfectly portable 13 pounds, this charmer is searching for his forever home. Burney is beyond sweet and wants to be by your side all the time - whether you're cooking in the kitchen, watching TV, or heading out for a stroller walk.

Environment

Burney needs a home where someone is present most of the time, as he experiences separation anxiety and doesn't like to be left alone for long periods. While he's crate trained and does well sleeping in his crate at night, apartment living isn't ideal - when left alone he likes to "sing the song of his people!" He doesn't require a fenced yard, but needs supervision during outdoor time as he gets around by dragging himself since he can't walk. He may be a candidate for a cart!

Health

This sweet boy has some special care needs that his future family should be prepared for. He requires regular bladder and bowel expression to avoid accidents, and uses a belly band between expressions to avoid drips. He's currently taking disc and cranberry supplements to support his health. Despite his mobility challenges, Burney maintains a happy and active life - he's a pro at stroller walks and his previous owner shared that he even enjoyed kayaking! As long as he's with you - he's happy!

Pets & People

Burney is a social butterfly who gets along splendidly with dogs of all sizes - he's proven himself friendly with both big and little dogs in his foster home. He would love to have a dog sibling in his new home as he doesn't like being totally alone. While he's a total love bug with adults and greets strangers warmly, he needs a home without babies or young children due to his history of being uncomfortable around them. He has excellent manners around food and treats, showing no food aggression even with other dogs present.

Location

Burney is available for adoption from Westbrook, CT. He's great in the car and can travel any distance, though he might do a little crying when uncertain about where he's going. Please email fosternorth@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Burney is $150.
