Overview

Meet Nala, a brilliant brown and tan dachshund who will capture your heart with her intelligence and charm! This 12-pound beauty came to Little Paws after being abandoned, but she’s ready to show a new family just how smart and wonderful she can be.

Nala is incredibly intelligent—she looks at you like she truly understands every word you’re saying! This observant girl has that classic dachshund intelligence combined with a personality that will keep you entertained and amazed by her cleverness.

 

Environment

Nala’s high prey drive means she loves to dig, but she can be redirected with proper guidance. If you have a fence, it must be extremely secure for this little hunter. She is a dog who needs mental stimulation to match her intelligence—puzzle toys, training sessions, and interactive play will keep her happy and engaged. She loves walks and is great on leash too. 

Nala is quite chatty and vocal, so she'd probably do better in a home without shared walls where her dachshund “conversations” won’t disturb neighbors. Nala has not yet been left alone in the house, so we're unsure how she would respond. This smart cookie is still working on potty training but is making progress. She doesn’t need a crate and is comfortable without one. 

 

Pets & People

Nala is good with people and has a friendly disposition. She gets along fine with other dogs, making her a good candidate for a multi-dog household, big and small. However, she has a high prey drive, so she absolutely cannot be in a home with cats or small animals—her instincts are too strong! Around food and treats, she’s excellent—she waits her turn and takes treats gently, showing her good manners. 

 

Location

Nala is available for adoption from Holyoke, MA. She does well in the car and travels without issue so she’s looking forward to riding along to her new home.
