Tonic…you may think this is an unusual name for a dog, but in Tonic’s case it is fitting. She is a tonic for the soul. Tonic is a calm, quiet, easygoing seven year old girl but is not dull!

Tonic likes nothing more than sleeping on your lap or on her pillow on the floor under her favorite blankie, which ever is available. She does enjoy going for a walk and playing with a toy but is not demanding of these things. She really comes to life when it’s time to eat and when the pantry door opens, she is there, prancing around and barking in her low pitched bark…sounds like a dog 10 times her size…LOL. She will also sit up to beg for food and looks so cute it’s hard to resist.

Tonic is 99.9% house trained (she is a dachshund and I don’t think one can ever say 100% with a dachshund). She will go in the crate but, that is definitely not her favorite place. Tonic does have a chronic yeast skin infection. She is being treated for this and will need lifelong maintenance treatment in the form of medicated baths. She is the perfect dog as she does not bark much or require much exercise, so I think she would be a great apartment dog. She does also enjoy being outside and nosing around. One of the best things about this girl is that she is happy to sleep on her pillow under her blankie on the floor next to the big bed all night! But I’m sure she would love the big bed too…

When meeting new people she warms up quickly. She is fine with older children, but not sure about the little ones. Gets on fine with my dogs but does not play with them much. Thus, she would do well as an only dog or with other fur siblings, although no cats please.

Tonic was rescued from a high kill shelter in NC along with her sister. Her sister has already been adopted and Tonic knows that is her turn now to find her perfect forever home where she will be loved and cared for.

TRANSPORTATION HELP!

If you see a furbaby that would be a match for your family, please don’t let distance stand in the way of your adoption.  LPDR can work with you to have a volunteer transport to assist with transportation or refer you to a paid transport.
