Sadie Mae, as we fondly call her, is an independent 12 year old girl looking for a home with other senior or small calm dogs. Her owner passed away and when the granddaughter took Sadie in, her own dog did not approve of Miss Sadie allowing LPDR to rescue her. She is laid back and like most dachshunds loves a good meal, a belly rub, basking in sunshine and a cozy blanket to burrow under. Sadie loves the big bed if allowed, but is satisfied with her personal doggie bed and blankie. She enjoys the occasional tug-a-war and tussle with our other dachshund residents. According to Sadie's vet records she was involved in an attack by another larger dog. She's sensitive to the touch around her front shoulder blades. Sadie will ask to be picked up and when told to turn around she will back up to you, to allow lifting. Sadie is food aggressive however, she has improved tremendously. She's working on taking treats from the hand more gently. She has a skin irritation issue that is being treated. Keep your toes in check because Sadie doesn't seem to like them much. Gentle and easy coercing in the mornings is the way to approach Sadie. She is willing to get up and go in the mornings but it's on her terms. Sadie is on a weight loss program, although she's not seriously overweight.
Sadie would do best in a cozy home without younger children. She does well with older children when limitations are understood. A home with someone home a majority of the time would be ideal. She is not cat tested. If this gal disapproves she will let you know. She doesn't like to be snuck up on, so best to announce yourself or she will nip in defense when caught off guard. She is house trained and works well on a schedule. Little to no stairs would also be ideal.

TRANSPORTATION HELP!
If you see a furbaby that would be a match for your family, please don’t let distance stand in the way of your adoption. LPDR can work with you to have a volunteer transport to assist with transportation or refer you to a paid transport.
