Adoption Fee:   $275.00 + $35.00 for a health certificate if going over state lines (required by law). Dogs adopted in New England are subject to additional rules and regulations by the state departments of agriculture. Complying with these regulations is expensive for our rescue, and all dogs adopted in New England states are subject to an additional $125 fee to help cover a portion of these expenses.  Dogs that are HW positive cannot be adopted in Massachusetts

I’m Chester and I am so HAPPY to be ALIVE!  I just turned 4 but I was a puppy mill breed dog.  I did not know that was really a bad thing ‘cuz I did not know anything else until I was rescued by Little Paws.

NOW I KNOW WHAT IT IS TO BE HAPPY!

I HAVE LOVE.  I did not know what people were.  Honest. Nobody ever held me, loved me, and cuddled me.  Now my foster mom and dad call me a cuddle bug. I am easily frightened by loud noises and will panic and run hide. I am scared of men. My foster dad has worked with me to gain my trust, but am really not comfortable with any other men. I prefer women and a quiet home.

I HAVE GRASS. Oh does that feel so good on my paws.  I don’t have to stand in my own poop anymore.  Really, that was nasty, but I didn’t have a choice.  Now I don’t want to get my paws dirty anymore.

I HAVE TOYS!!!  I love my toys.

I HAVE ALL OF MY VET STUFF DONE! … and I am in good health!  I can't be a breeder dog anymore and I don’t care!

I make my foster family smile every day

I am learning to walk on a leash and that is fun.  I get to go out and see cool things.

The ONLY thing I pray for – Please do not adopt me if you are going to put me in a crate or kennel.  I get so scared and I shake, cry, bark, and scratch.

I still have a lot of learning to do.  If you will be patient with me, we can do that learning together.  I am a good little guy and I try very hard.  Mom says I now have springs on my paws ‘cuz I can jump onto her lap even if she has her computer there!  When I got here, I was too afraid to even try to go up a step.   I am just a mini-dachshund but I have full sized ambitions.

Will you and I be together forever?

Chester will cuddle you all day long.  He will be your bed buddy, and constant companion.  All he asks is to stay out of a crate, please.  That brings back such bad memories. Please contact his foster mom, Debbie at debreed66@gmail.com~~ for more info about this great boy!

RI RESIDENTS  At this time we are not registered with this state and are unable to adopt to residents.  The process to register is lengthy and will take some time.  We are currently working on this process.

TRANSPORTATION HELP!

If you see a furbaby that would be a match for your family, please don’t let distance stand in the way of your adoption. LPDR can work with you to have a volunteer transport to assist with transportation or refer you to a paid transport.
