Adoption Fee:   $275.00 + $35.00 for a health certificate if going over state lines (required by law). Dogs adopted in New England are subject to additional rules and regulations by the state departments of agriculture. Complying with these regulations is expensive for our rescue, and all dogs adopted in New England states are subject to an additional $125 fee to help cover a portion of these expenses.  Dogs that are HW positive cannot be adopted in Massachusetts

If I were writing a book about this boy, it would be called “Henry the Happy Dachshund.”  He has an even tempered, pleasant, loving disposition.  He loves running around the yard chasing squirrels & really enjoys long walks on leash outside of the yard.  We live on a lake and Henry's little paws prefer to stay high and dry.  Evenings are the time for hanging out on the Lazy Boy with the man of the house, who loves him very much.

   Other things about Henry -

Adventure guy needs a fenced yard, hopefully big enough for him to run and play.

Toys are okay; a few little squeaky toys are played with for a short time.

He is not a chow hound nor does he go crazy for treats.  He”ll politely accept Newman's Snack Sticks to make the people happy.  Several dried foods have offered; it is not his thing.  When he came here he was suffering from kennel cough & had not been eating.  As happens with dogs in this household, I have been gradually trained to find something he likes (Merricks, Chicken Soup for the Soul, and Newman's canned foods are favorites) and I do mix dry food in with it.  His health is fine now but the preference for canned food I think is permanent.

He sleeps in a crate at night – not a peep out of him!  But put him in the daytime & he may want to talk about this.  It's not bedtime & he just got up, for crying out loud!

Re house training – on his first day here I think he considered our enclosed porch “outside.”  We have worked with this smart boy and since that first day have not seen any more accidents.   He doesn't bark to go out but quietly sits by the door.  The weather is getting cooler, the house is open so he can go from house to porch to doggie door at will.

He's really excited.  His people keep talking about taking him to get tutored.  Should be fun!!

RI RESIDENTS  At this time we are not registered with this state and are unable to adopt to residents.  The process to register is lengthy and will take some time.  We are currently working on this process.

TRANSPORTATION HELP!

If you see a furbaby that would be a match for your family, please don’t let distance stand in the way of your adoption. LPDR can work with you to have a volunteer transport to assist with transportation or refer you to a paid transport.
