Adoption Fee: $250.00 + $35.00 for a health certificate if going over state lines (required by law). Dogs adopted in New England are subject to additional rules and regulations by the state departments of agriculture. Complying with these regulations is expensive for our rescue, and all dogs adopted in New England states are subject to an additional $125 fee to help cover a portion of these expenses.
Hi my name is Rusty (approximately 5 years young). I am a beautiful handsome red-smooth male (with a little bit of black highlights on my ears and tail) and have lots of love to give. I think that a single person that does not leave me home alone for very long would be best for me; maybe someone who works from home or is at home most of the time. I am such a ‘cuddle bug’ and if there is a lap or the ‘big bed’ available, I am there! If I do say so myself; my fur is so shiny and soft and just know you would love to pet me, but be prepared – you will see my almost bald belly. Belly rubs are required as they are a favorite of mine. I came to Maryland from a great foster mom in Georgia. She thought a change of seasons was a good thing for me to experience.
I do get along with other dogs and older children and will invite them to play, but not cats. We can play tug, chase and run around in circles. Toys are a favorite of mine also, so you would have to have lots of them. That would be so much fun as I have a lot of energy!
Did you say it was time to eat? Yummers!!! You do not have to call me twice, and since being a breeder dog, I am happy to have regular meals and will not gulp my food if put in a slow feeder bowl inside a crate. Keep me in my crate if there are other dogs around until finished as their food tastes just as good. Also, it would be a good idea to feed me treats in my cage as they are so good that I just gobble them down even if your fingers are in the way.
If it is nice outside, and you tell me it is “time to pee”, I will go willingly on a leash, because the warm sun is great. . But, I still need to be reminded sometimes to go potty. But, I do give hints that I need to go out. I usually will give a small squeak and sit at a door. I love to go for walks especially in the day light because darkness scares me and that is the best times for me to empty my system. I am timid at first and it will take a few minutes to warm up to new people, but offer me a treat and then we are good.
If you are looking for a best friend who will steal your heart, who has a great temperament, is a treasure and will cuddle with you, I am the one for you, and we can learn to be with each other together in our forever home. If you are interested in knowing more about me, just contact my foster mom and she would be happy to answer questions about me.

RI RESIDENTS – At this time we are not registered with this state and are unable to adopt to residents. The process to register is lengthy and will take some time. We are currently working on this process. TRANSPORTATION HELP! If you see a furbaby that would be a match for your family, please don’t let distance stand in the way of your adoption. LPDR can work with you to have a volunteer transport to assist with transportation or refer you to a paid transport.
