Adoption Fee:   $275.00 + $35.00 for a health certificate if going over state lines (required by law). Dogs adopted in New England are subject to additional rules and regulations by the state departments of agriculture. Complying with these regulations is expensive for our rescue, and all dogs adopted in New England states are subject to an additional $125 fee to help cover a portion of these expenses.  Dogs that are HW positive cannot be adopted in Massachusetts

Lucy is a kind, gentle, beautiful red dachshund girl. She has the sweetest eyes that will melt anyone’s heart. She is about 1 year old and is the most loving little baby. She weights about 14lbs, is spayed, heartworm negative, nearly housetrained and so devoted to her people.

She was previously in a home with too many other dogs and rarely got any attention. When I brought her home she was a little unfamiliar with being picked up and loved on. Within a couple days she caught on to how much she enjoyed attention and loving from people. She hadn’t been around any men or young people and was a little hesitant with my husband and daughter. She couldn’t be more different now. She jumps in my husband’s lap and runs to greet him and waits patiently for her biscuits from him. She also now adores my daughter and lets her carry her around and falls asleep on her shoulder. She may be hesitant initially with new people but once she settles in she is purely a love bug.

I have several dogs of my own and after a short adjustment period Lucy has learned to adore them. She snuggles next to them, plays tug, and follows them in the yard. She may not want to share a bone but other than that she is very dog friendly. I also have cats. Lucy was curious but quickly learned the cats are not playful and prefer to sleep and not be annoyed.

We have worked really hard on housetraining and she is getting better and better every day. I do regularly remind her that it is time to go out and she will follow me and know exactly what to do. She does hate the rain and will sit inside the door and stare at me but eventually gives in.

Being a love is the main thing on Lucy’s mind. Walking and playing is fun but more importantly being in your lap or at your feet is the ideal place for her. I don’t have young children (my daughter is 17) but with very respectful kids she should work well.

If you are looking for a LOVE consider Lucy.

RI RESIDENTS  At this time we are not registered with this state and are unable to adopt to residents.  The process to register is lengthy and will take some time.  We are currently working on this process.

TRANSPORTATION HELP!

If you see a furbaby that would be a match for your family, please don’t let distance stand in the way of your adoption. LPDR can work with you to have a volunteer transport to assist with transportation or refer you to a paid transport.
