Smokey is a sweet and loving fella. He will be 3 years old on January 12, 2014. For the past 2.5 years he has spent it with his owner who loved him to pieces but due to her declining health she had to go into a nursing home and therefore had no choice but to try to find him a good home. THAT is where we come in because that is our specialty. … finding great homes for great furbabies.
Hi my name is Smokey. I think my mom named me that because I am the color of grey smoke. They tell me I am an unusual color and sometimes the color is called Blue or Dilute. I came to LPDR because my mom became ill and had to go in a special home so they can take care of her. She wanted to make sure I found a perfect new home. She asked for Little Paws help and so now I am looking for my new forever home.
I am used to being a chair / lap hog. You don’t have to invite me to sit on your lap, I make myself welcome all by myself. My foster mom says I am doing good about learning I can explore my fenced in backyard without a leash. However, when she pulls out that leash, I do admit I get all excited because that means we are going somewhere in the big thing on wheels or just for a casual walk around the neighborhood.
There is this “different” kind of dog here. His name is Jackson. My foster mom said something about Jackson thinks he is a dog but is really a cat. At first I wasn’t so sure about Jackson because he has lots of fur and liked to chase me but now we have become good buddies and most of the time I just ignore him when he is trying to aggravate me and sometimes I will chase him like he wants me to and we go all around the house having fun.
My foster mom says that I am learning to be vocal and that is not such a good thing but it is a “dachshund” thing. When my foster dad comes home from work, I will bark along with my foster siblings until I see that it is him that is walking in the door and then I run up to him to get to pet me.
My foster family also have these short little people and I think they say something about them being GRANDchildren! All I know is I do think they are GRAND. I love it when they come over and especially when they have a sleep over because I get to join in the fun as well and sleep with these short little GRAND people.
Everyone tells me all the time that I am so handsome. I will say that I like that attention but I do not have as much fur as my foster siblings do, something about genetics, so I wear a sweater or a coat most of the time.. My foster mom says that with eating better food, using good bath products and taking some fish oil, my hair should start coming back in. It doesn’t really bother me though and my foster mom says that no one can really tell I don’t have much hair on my back because my skin is the same color as my hair.
The one thing I apparently must work on is to go outside and potty. I used to just go outside 3 times a day and was on a schedule so I am having to adjust to a new schedule. Foster mom says I am doing so much better and especially now that I like to run in the yard with my foster siblings and chat with the labs in the fence behind us. I am an early riser and I let my foster mom know every morning around 7 o’clock that I need to go outside to potty by going to her side of the bed and barking.
Please consider adopting me and taking me into your home. I will win your heart over quickly.
