Hi ! My name is Daphne and I want to share the story of my life. I am praying that somewhere out there, is a person that is just right for me. Someone who will give me a forever home filled with love, compassion, understanding and a comfortable bed.   On Jan 9, 2015 I was picked up by a few caring officers at an empty N.Y. warehouse. I was cold, fearful and filled with anxiety and aggression. I did not do well when they placed me in a crate, being taken from what I thought was my safe place was very scary. Graciously I was placed in the care of a local N.Y. animal rescue organization. I weighed 14 lbs and they guessed I was about 7 years old. My toenails were so long and curled and I badly needed a bath. Miraculously my Doctor. told me my medical condition was good but without a record or history what was to become of me? If only I could talk. My journey continued when Little Paws Dachshund Rescue (LPDR) heard of my plight and were quick to request that I be given to them for fostering and possible adoption. I was transported to N.H. where I was placed in a state required quarantine for 48 hours. Once again, I was placed in a crate which made me appear even more aggressive and frightened. I was picked up by someone called a “foster Mom” and she brought me to her home where I was greeted by two very friendly dogs. “Whadaya know, maybe this living arangement ain’t so bad.” After consultation and observation by a dog behaviorist and many months of behavior correction, love and assurance and aided by a prescribed medication, I began to understand that life is good. I could put away my built up defenses of biting and growling. Few people as a lot of us dogs, but it is wonderful being rewarded with toys, soft beds, regular food, and most of all LOVE. Because I still had a few, itty bitty flaws, I was sent to a boarding facility(like a finishing school). This place is filled with very understanding trainers, who helped me to eliminate some of my remaining behavioral issues. I have been told that I really am a smart girl. I am now demonstrating that there is a loving heart inside of me. I am ready to graduate and fly free with a family who is dog savvy and willing to accept me, little flaws and all. I have been told I am DEFINITELY adoptable now ! YAHOO !!

Adoption Fee:  $250.00 + $35.00 for a health certificate if going over state lines (required by law).  Dogs adopted in New England are subject to additional rules and regulations by the state departments of agriculture. Complying with these regulations is expensive for our rescue, and all dogs adopted in New England states are subject to an additional $125 fee to help cover a portion of these expenses.

TRANSPORTATION HELP!

If you see a furbaby that would be a match for your family, please don’t let distance stand in the way of your adoption.  LPDR can work with you to have a volunteer transport to assist with transportation or refer you to a paid transport.
