How do I spell LOVE? J-A-C-K! I may be blind, but boy oh boy you wouldn’t know it after I have had some time to explore my new home and surroundings to learn the boundaries, obstacles, my food station and furniture layout (please don’t move the furniture as it confuses me). Wait until you hear my story. I am a 5 year old, very quiet, low energy,14 lb, absolute snuggle cuddle love bug. I love to be held and petted, but also sleep very comfortably and calmly in a dog bedon my own. I’m a cuddlerwho enjoyssitting on laps or carried around so I am always near my owner. My house training is a work in progress, as I do not like to go outside when it is cold, and I cannot always remember where the pee pads have been placed. I tell my Foster Mom to be patient with me as I am a Florida boy brought all the way to N. Virginia to be fostered after I was surrendered to the rescue by my previous owner. I get very excited at mealtime, and can get up on my back legs and do a wiggledance, which makes my Foster Mom think maybe I was called “Jack” from “Jack in the box”. I walk well on a leashfor slow, relaxed walks where I am confident with the path and terrain, and also enjoy having thetime to sniff and mark, so please don’t take me out for a walk if you are in a hurry! I respond well to a soft tone of voice, andI give little licks when I am really happy. Let’s talk steps and stairs: I am not confident around steps and especially stairs. At my foster home I can walk up the 5 steps to the top of the porch, but will not walk down them. If my furever home has stairs, they would need to be gated especially at the top of the stairs, so that I would not injure myself stepping down the first step of a flight of stairs only to tumble all the way to the bottom. My Foster Mom thinks that I have the temperament to be a Therapy Dog or to visit with the elderly, because I am so calm, quiet and a great listener. If this is your first time to adopt a blind dog, my Foster Mom also suggests you read tips on living with a blind dog. If you are looking for a big-hearted love bug in a mini Dachshund body, I’m your dog!
