Hey everyone. My name is Skipper and although my life started out in a backyard as a studmuffin, because I am so handsome, I have to just love love love this new life of living in a airconditioned / heated home with a nice soft bed and blanket and getting to cuddle with my foster mom. I am 8 years old, pure blooded Dachshund from a championship line (whatever the heck that means! My foster mom says it means that I am the best looking guy she has ever seen!) I was a breeder dog for my whole life living outside in unpleasant conditions and never knew this kind of love was possible.
When my breeder buddies and I were rescued by LPDR, I had no idea how to be a normal dog. I was very scared because everything was just so new! I didn't even know how to go up and down stairs or even to eat out of a dog food bowl of my own. I hid behind furniture or under a bed. I cuddled with the other dogs that I was rescued with because everything I had known for 8 years was gone. Since being with a couple of different fosters, I realized that life can be pretty great. Really good food, grass to roll on, squeaky toys, soft beds and something called a couch! I even give kisses and am so happy when my foster mom comes home.
My real personality is finally coming out. I am a very happy little guy and content to just lay beside you on the couch. I love to pile up all my toys and lay on top of them. My foster mom says I am a hoarder! I run from room to room and when I get out in the yard in the sun, I roll onto my back and wiggle. It feels so good that my tongue sticks out of my mouth! I just love the grass. So much nicer than that cold clay floor! I even recently went to a place called Home Depot with my foster dad. I walked all around the store and met all sorts of people that wanted to pet me.
My potty training is going pretty good but sometimes I just don’t feel like going outside because… I am a dachshund. That is just the way I roll. I do not like it when it rains and my feet get wet.
Being a more mature gentleman, I am perfectly happy with napping in a bed in the sun or on the couch. I sleep in a a nice soft bed under my foster mom's bed with my squeaky toys where it is quiet and safe.
I am good with respectful children, cats and other dogs. My foster mom feels like, because of my insecurities and still learning about "new to me" things and sounds, that I would be best in a home where someone is home most of the time so I can have that extra special bonding time. Due to my insecurities and still learning about this whole new world, it may take me several weeks to adjust to my new home but my foster moms just knows that you will love me forever and give me to time to trust. Because of my insecurities, I must be kept on a secure leash and harness at all times, unless I am in a fenced in yard as I may try to find my way to my foster mom's house because I love her very much.
If you think you would like to learn more about me or have room to give me my forever home, please contact my foster Mom.
