Adoption Fee:  $250.00 + $35.00 for a health certificate if going over state lines (required by law).  Dogs adopted in New England are subject to additional rules and regulations by the state departments of agriculture. Complying with these regulations is expensive for our rescue, and all dogs adopted in New England states are subject to an additional $125 fee to help cover a portion of these expenses.

Hey efurrybody!  I'm Deuce the Dachshund looking for my FUREVER family. I am currently living in the Sunshine State of Florida with my foster family, but I am willing to travel ANYWHERE if you will have me! My family before surrendered me to a local shelter because they said I snapped at a child, but the good people of LPDR were nice enough to get me out of there and into a foster home where I can learn to interact well with other dogs, cats, and people. When I was rescued I got a dental cleaning, and some of my teeth were pretty bad so the Vet had to take them out.  Sometimes now my tongue will hang out of my mouth just a little since there aren't too many teeth to hold it in.  It's become my signature look and everybody that sees me thinks it is A-DOG-ABLE! I was also very overweight when I was rescued last August, almost twice the weight I should be.  I have lost 7 pounds since then, so I am feeling much better with a clean mouth and a slimmer waist line.

My foster home now has a fenced in yard for me to go out and do my business, but I am also good at walking on a leash when I need to.  As long as I can get out and get some exercise every day to maintain my manly shape.  I also love to lay in the sun when it's a nice day out.  I don't play with toys much but sometimes I will take a nyla bone or stuffed toy and chew on it for a while, but most of the time I like to just snuggle under a blankie or with my foster mom or sometimes even one of the other doggies.

I am definitely a lap dog and love to be petted and give kisses.  I have a very smooth coat so petting me feels good for both of us! I LOVE to sleep in the big bed, but I need to be picked up or have a ramp to get on it since jumping up and down is not good for my back.   I am learning to use the doggy steps to get up and down on the couch, too, but I prefer you pick me up and will let you know by whining when I want to get up by you.  When it is time for bed, Mommy picks me up and puts me on the big bed and I burrow under the covers and stay there until morning when she usually has to wake me to go out and puts me on the floor and we go outside together.

I have four foster brothers and a foster sister who are all younger than me.  Two of the boys and the girl are dachshunds.  We all get along fine.  One of the boys is a big pit bull but he's only two years old and doesn't bother me.  There is also a tiny new chiweenie puppy.  I love the puppy and even let him play with me sometimes.  I like to look after him.  My dachshund foster brothers and I play sometimes, but when we aren't playing I like to lie on the couch near my foster Mommy.  I'm am okay around cats, too.  I don't live with any right now but sometimes we visit friends that have them and I tend to just leave them alone after checking them out just a bit.  I might chase one if it chases me, but I won't hurt them.

The ultimate home for me would be one without young children just because they may not understand my boundaries and I don't want to get startled by them. If you get too close to me or startle me I may get scared and snap as a defense.  But if you just notice the signs I try to give like a little snarl and let me have my space I will calm down.  I have not shown any initiation of aggression since I have been in my new foster home, but I do like to steal food from the other dogs so it is best to feed me separately in a crate if there are other dogs.

I am a very loving and obedient boy and would love to become a part of your family soon!
