Harrison is the sweetest gentleman! He does very well on leash and with other dogs. He is very shy and uncertain at first when meeting new humans, or when out in public.   When meeting someone new, if he is given a little bit of time, and with a gentle touch, he warms up and attaches quickly.  He enjoys playing with other dogs but loves snuggling with his human and spends most of his time curled up at his foster mom's feet by her desk while she works. 

Please note Harrison is a medium sized dog, weighing in at approximately 30 pounds.

When put in a crate, Harrison exhibits high levels of anxiety.  If worked with, and given lots of positive re-enforcement over a long period of time and using short bursts of training, he may become much calmer while in a crate.  His housebreaking is a work in progress but with much positive reinforcement he will improve with this as well.

We believe a home with a secure fenced in yard would be best for Harrison.  He really enjoys exploring, but has been known to try to escape if a fenced area is not secure.

Harrison loves sleeping in bed with his humans.  He also enjoys car rides.  He is very food driven and gets over excited when food is in the mix. He has NEVER shown aggression, just excitement.  Also, if around humans while they are  eating, he likes to try to sneak up and get the food and will just need continued training to stay down.  When corrected, he learns quickly but can also be a bit stubborn (typical dachshund!!). 

All in all, Harrison will make any family a phenomenal fur baby.  He is an exceptional dog and a wonderful house guest.  He adores tummy rubs, ear scratches and paw holding. He has been hurt in his life and deserves lots and lots of gentle love to make him feel safe and at home.

Adoption Fee:  $275.00 + $35.00 for a health certificate if going over state lines (required by law).  Dogs adopted in New England are subject to additional rules and regulations by the state departments of agriculture. Complying with these regulations is expensive for our rescue, and all dogs adopted in New England states are subject to an additional $125 fee to help cover a portion of these expenses.
